Latest on Domi's Timeline for Return

Sunday, Dec. 11

Per Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos (h/t Craig Morgan of 98.7 Arizona Sports), Domi is expected to undergo hand surgery that could leave him on the shelf for up to six weeks.

Domi, 21, left the Coyotes' game against the Calgary Flames on Thursday following a fight with Garnet Hathaway. He is the team's second-leading scorer this season with 16 points and is tied for the team lead with 11 assists.

In his second NHL season, the former first-round pick has made an instant impact with Arizona. He had 18 goals and 34 assists as a rookie and has made a name for himself with his sterling backhand.

"Everybody is talking about him back home," teammate Oliver Ekman-Larsson told Dan Rosen of NHL.com. "He's got a lot of speed, some sick hands and that shot. His backhanded shot is probably one of the best in this league. Unbelievable. So hard. He's got a lot of good things going on."

The Coyotes are going to miss Domi during his extended absence.

With him on the sidelines for the time being, Jamie McGinn figures to move up on the depth chart with more playing time. The Coyotes were struggling with just 23 points in 27 games before losing Domi, so their climb in the Pacific Division will be even more difficult.
