Nick Wiggins Released by Timberwolves: Latest Details, Comments and Reaction

Tim DanielsOct 24, 2015

The Minnesota Timberwolves announced that guard Nick Wiggins, the older brother of forward Andrew Wiggins, was among the players waived Saturday.

Jerry Zgoda of the Minneapolis Star Tribune‎ noted the Wolves have now trimmed their squad to 15 players with the moves. That's the maximum allowed under contract on the roster during the regular season, with 13 active on game days.

Wiggins signed with Minnesota last month after a stint with the organization's Las Vegas Summer League squad. He received extremely limited action during the preseason, however, playing just 14 minutes across four games.

The 24-year-old Toronto native made stops at three colleges, including Wichita State, before going undrafted. He also played for the Tigers Tubingen in Germany and the D-League's Idaho Stampede prior to getting a chance with the T-Wolves.

It's unlikely he'll be picked up by another team this close to the regular season after failing to stand out during the preseason. That means another trip to the D-League or Europe is likely on tap while he waits for another NBA opportunity.

Meanwhile, Minnesota, led by Wiggins' brother, opens the regular season with a clash against the Los Angeles Lakers next Wednesday.
