NFL Week 7 Picks: Early Odds and Predictions for Every Upcoming Game

Michelle BrutonOct 19, 2015

Like the week before it, Week 6 in the NFL delivered some thrilling finishes and satisfying upsets.

Such games included the Denver Broncos' win by the skin of their teeth against the Cleveland Browns in overtime, the Detroit Lions' first win of the season over the division-rival Chicago Bears, also in overtime, and the San Diego Chargers' second heartbreaking final-seconds loss in a row, this time to the undefeated Green Bay Packers.

Some teams dug themselves further into a pit in Week 6. The Kansas City Chiefs are now 1-5 on the season, having lost five games in a row, while the Baltimore Ravens have lost two straight games to end up at the same record.

NFL Teams at a Crossroads

Kansas City Chiefs (1-5)

Is the loss of star running back Jamaal Charles for the season the final blow for the Kansas City Chiefs this year? If not, how many more can they take?

The Chiefs have dropped to 1-5 on the season, their sole win being a 27-20 defeat of the Houston Texans in Week 1.

But already featuring an offense that couldn't move the ball through the air, Kansas City is now dealing with a unit that is ineffective on the ground, as well.

Running back Charcandrick West, who is the closest thing to Charles that the Chiefs have, had only 33 yards on nine carries in the Week 6 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Rusher Knile Davis didn't help out, either, with just 13 yards on five attempts.

West's fumble near the end of the fourth quarter killed any hope of a comeback the Chiefs had despite some good work by cornerback Marcus Peters, who intercepted Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, and Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith, who threw a touchdown to Albert Wilson in the fourth quarter.

The Chiefs, who had been averaging 23.4 points per game heading into Week 6, scored just 10.

"They could see it was very obvious in the second half when we came alive what we can do. We have to stay consistent and get it," Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said after the game, per ESPN.com.

If they don't find that consistency soon, however, they can consider this season a wash.

Prediction: Chiefs lose a sixth straight game to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Detroit Lions (1-5)

The Detroit Lions did get their first win of the season in Week 6 against the Chicago Bears, but it may be too little, too late for the surprisingly poor-performing team.

Many of the Lions' problems this season have seemed to stem from offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi. Yes, Detroit has problems with its offensive line and a struggling run game, and quarterback Matthew Stafford has given away the ball too many times, but Lombardi hasn't appeared to know how to best use weapons Calvin Johnson, Golden Tate and Lance Moore.

That changed somewhat on Sunday, as the Lions fought their way to a 37-34 overtime victory over Chicago.

Some have speculated that the change in fortune could have been attributable to a change in viewpoint for Lombardi, who moved from the field up to the press box to call plays.

But Josh Katzenstein of the Detroit News isn't convinced, instead arguing that execution (finally) by the players was the real impetus for the win.

Stafford seemed to agree.

"I thought we played well on offense," said Stafford, who easily had his best game of the season, per Katzenstein. "I’m not sure that had anything to do with the game. I think we went out and we executed better, and that helps us win."

Still, it may be difficult for Detroit to turn this win into any kind of momentum, and catching up to the 6-0 Green Bay Packers atop the NFC North is all but out of the question.

Prediction: Lions fall to division-rival Minnesota in Week 7.

Baltimore Ravens (1-5)

In the midst of their worst start in franchise history, per the Associated Press, via ESPN.com, the last thing the reeling Baltimore Ravens want is the nation's attention on them in a prime-time game against a tough opponent.

But that's exactly what they will get in Week 7, when they take on the Arizona Cardinals on Monday Night Football.

The silver lining for the Ravens in this matchup is that it's against an NFC opponent, but that's hardly consolation for a team that lost two games in a row and has only one win on the season.

Baltimore coach John Harbaugh placed the blame on himself. "We have to get it done, and it starts with me," he said after the game versus the San Francisco 49ers, per the AP.

But anyone who watched the game knows that the main issues that plagued the Ravens were about execution more than coaching.

Quarterback Joe Flacco threw two interceptions. Wide receiver Steve Smith dropped two passes in the end zone. The defense dropped two potential picks on 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick

The game was yet another reminder that the Ravens who won the Super Bowl against the 49ers in 2013 have all but disappeared, leaving this struggling franchise in their place.

Prediction: Ravens lose by two touchdowns to Arizona.
