Ronnie Hillman, C.J. Anderson's Post-Week 6 Fantasy Advice

Mike NorrisOct 18, 2015

The Denver Broncos running game has been one of the worst in the NFL this season. If you drafted C.J. Anderson early (or at all), you are most likely pretty bitter. If you picked up his teammate, Ronnie Hillman, thinking you found a steal, you probably don't feel much better.

Here is what the pair have done through six weeks of the season.

If that's not enough to depress you, the top fantasy running back this season, the Atlanta Falcons' Devonta Freeman, has outperformed the duo by himself, with 505 yards and nine touchdowns on the season.

One glimmer of hope for Hillman owners is that he had just the second 100-yard performance for either this year in a Week 6 overtime victory against the Cleveland Browns, rushing for 111 yards. Anderson was awful in the game, with just 41 yards on 13 carries, although he was on the field during the final drive and gained strong yardage to help set up a game-winning field goal.

Neither one is going to help you in the passing game, either. Anderson's four catches against Cleveland were tied for the most by either player in a game up to this date.

Ronnie Hillman had his best day in Week 6 against the Cleveland Browns.

Hillman's strong day is certainly a good sign, but it doesn't necessarily mean he's the No. 1 back for Denver just yet. In Week 4, he gained 103 yards against the Minnesota Vikings but followed that up in Week 5 with just 21 yards on seven carries.

In six games so far, Anderson has had more carries in three games, the duo had the same number in two games and, against Cleveland for the first time all season, Hillman had more carries than Anderson, yet he was absent on the game's final drive.

It's still a guess as to which back will be the starter. While Hillman has not been consistent or great, Anderson has been consistently bad.  If you still have either on your roster and can fill your running back slots with players who have solidified starting roles, it's best to keep both Hillman and Anderson on the bench.
