Carlos Hyde Fined 23k for Using Crown of Helmet on Play Jon Beason Was Injured
San Francisco 49ers running back Carlos Hyde has been fined for what the NFL has deemed "unnecessary roughness" on a play in Week 5 against the New York Giants.
NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported the fine, adding that 49ers guard Alex Boone was not penalized for a block in the back.
According to Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area, Hyde is being docked $23,152 for using the crown of his helmet against Giants linebacker Jon Beason.

"The NFL fined 49ers running back Carlos Hyde $23,152 for initiating contact with the crown of his helmet on a play that resulted in New York Giants linebacker Jon Beason sustaining a concussion on Sunday night. ...
... The rule, which NFL owners adopted in 2013, states that it’s a penalty of "a runner or tackler initiates forcible contact by delivering a blow with the top/crown of his helmet against an opponent when both players are clearly outside the tackle box."
"
Beason told reporters, via Daniel Popper of the New York Daily News, that Boone was at fault for a horse-collar and pushing him into Hyde, which led to the injury:

Hyde is a powerful runner who isn't afraid to initiate contact with defenders. Since he was the one who made the actual hit that injured Beason, as opposed to initiating contact like Boone did, the NFL may have determined he is the one who should be fined.
Whatever the case, Beason has been limited in practice leading up to the Giants' Week 6 Monday night matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles. Injuries have plagued the 30-year-old throughout his career, as he's appeared in fewer than five games in three of the past four seasons.
