Peat's Injury Disrupted Development
The Saints selected the 6'7", 312-pound lineman with the No. 13 overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft, but they took a slow and steady approach by utilizing him as a reserve initially.
Peat was pressed into action at left tackle against the Philadelphia Eagles last week, though, since Terron Armstead was out with a knee injury. Armstead also missed Thursday's contest, so Peat remained in the lineup.
Entering the clash with Atlanta, Saints head coach Sean Payton seemed confident in Peat's ability to take on an increase role, per Christopher Dabe of NOLA.com:
"Absolutely, I think just coming from the college game and getting the calls, understanding the scheme and offense. Those guys and you see it with the young defenders because they are playing more, but all of them each week they are learning and getting a better feel for the pro game. ... I think his confidence is good. He's a first round pick at left tackle and I think he's prepared and he will be ready to go.
"
Peat's time as a starter was short-lived as he was replaced by Tony Hills, who New Orleans signed prior to Week 6.
