NFL Week 6 Picks: Latest Spreads, Predictions and More

Joe PantornoOct 15, 2015

It's hard to predict football. It's been a surprising 2015 season that has seen the script flipped on the normal food chain in the NFL

Entering Week 6, teams like the Cincinnati Bengals and Carolina Panthers are undefeated while the Seattle Seahawks and Baltimore Ravens have losing records. Not many could have reasonably thought out those kind of scenarios, but that's the great thing about football: It doesn't get played out on paper.

But that won't stop me from trying. Let's take a look at the latest spreads with my over-under predictions and game of the week. All spreads are courtesy of OddsShark.com

Game of the Week

Carolina Panthers at Seattle Seahawks

The two-time NFC champion Seattle Seahawks roll into Week 6 undefeated against a lowly Carolina...wait a minute, it's the Panthers who are undefeated?

Surprising, yes, but the Panthers at 4-0 are one of six teams that remain undefeated this season. Yet they aren't even first in their division as the Atlanta Falcons hold a 5-0 mark.

They've been getting it done with a rushing game ranked fourth in the league thanks to a two-headed rushing attack of Jonathan Stewart and quarterback Cam Newton, who proves he can get things done with his legs as well as his arm.

But he hasn't fared well against the Seahawks, having lost all three of his starts including a 31-17 loss in Seattle in the NFC Divisional Round last season. Playing in Seattle, going up against its well-documented "12th man" in the fans, Newton isn't phased by the Panthers' Sunday surroundings.

He spoke with Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer:

"

I can’t say this stadium is the loudest that we’ve ever heard before because we’ve played in some loud places. I’m not trying to disrespect them, nor disrespect any other place because loud is loud. When it’s third-and-4 in the fourth quarter with three minutes left and you’ve got to get a first down, I like to put Bank of America (Stadium) up against anybody in the nation, in the world.

"

Nothing like adding fuel to the fire for Seahawks fans, who will try to will their 2-3 team to a win on Sunday. The Seahawks stats haven't quite been indicative of their record though.

With the top rushing offense and a top-10 defensive unit, this is as close to a must-win for the Seahawks as a team could have in Week 6. They are getting an added boost with the return of running back Marshawn Lynch, who missed the past two games with a hamstring injury.

What should put them over the top, though, is the home-field advantage, as cliched as that sounds. It's going to be loud, the fans are going to be anxious and it will be a question of which side will keep its composure. If it comes down to that, I'm taking Russell Wilson over Newton any day.

The Panthers will cover the spread, it'll be close, but the Seahawks will get back to .500 after Sunday with a 23-20 win.
