Stephenson Trying to Bounce Back from Early-Season Struggles
Stephenson averaged 8.2 points a game behind an atrocious 17.1 percent shooting clip from three-point range last year for the Charlotte Hornets. He also only averaged 4.7 points a night in 43 games for the Los Angeles Clippers this season before being shipped to Memphis.
Those totals were a far cry from the all-around force he was on the Indiana Pacers in 2013-14 when he averaged 13.8 points, 7.2 rebounds and 4.6 assists a night and received votes for the NBA All-Defensive Team.
It was easy to overlook how productive he was that season given certain antics—like blowing in LeBron James’ ear during a playoff series—but the Grizzlies likely traded for him this season with that two-way talent in mind. He has responded by averaging an impressive 14.2 points, 4.8 boards and 2.8 assists in 12 games.
