Luke Ridnour Reportedly Sitting Out 2015-16 NBA Season

Joseph ZuckerSep 21, 2015

Luke Ridnour's NBA career may be drawing to a close. According to Yahoo Sports' Marc J. Spears, the veteran point guard will not play at all during the 2015-16 season. Spears added a potential return to the league at some point "appears doubtful" for Ridnour.

Given the way the offseason unfolded for Ridnour, you can understand why he might be a bit burnt out. The 34-year-old was traded four times in the space of a week. His non-guaranteed $2.75 million contract was an attractive piece for teams aiming to abide by the league's salary cap restrictions.

"I've got a lot of texts from friends and family worried about us," Ridnour said in July, per USA Today's Jeff Zillgitt. "It really hasn't affected us at all. It's been pretty funny. ... Honestly, not much has changed."

The Toronto Raptors—Ridnour's final stop on his whirlwind trade carousel—released him on July 9, one day before his deal became guaranteed.

It isn't a big surprise Ridnour has failed to find a new home since his release. He averaged 4.0 points and 2.0 assists last year and boasted a 10.0 player efficiency rating, per Basketball-Reference.com.

With the abundance of talented point guards in the league, signing a player like Ridnour just doesn't make a ton of sense right now.

In the event he actually takes the entire upcoming year off, the chances he continues his NBA career become even more slim.
