Floyd Mayweather Jr. Gets Worked Over by Isaiah Thomas in Pickup Basketball Game
Floyd Mayweather Jr. is currently training for his September 12 bout against Andre Berto—a 31-year-old challenger with knockout strength who will do his best to hit Mayweather and fail.
This leaves you with some options.
You could pay a lot of money to watch the fight, which will be fun if you're a connoisseur of defensive fistiana or a Mayweather fan with a gold hat.
Or you could skip the bout altogether and just re-watch this video from Showtime Sports' All Access, which documents a recent break the 38-year-old took from his training regimen.
In it, Mayweather tries to take on Boston Celtics guard Isaiah Thomas in pickup basketball and—shock of shocks—loses, because Thomas isn't on the payroll and hell no he isn't going to just let Floyd win.
Shortly after beginning, it becomes apparent that this "game" is less of a team event than it is a one-on-one showdown between Mayweather and Thomas with other people who just so happen to be standing on the court.
Thomas thinks some of his teammates for the game are on the take.
"Damn," Thomas says. "Y'all just letting him go by you."
"I'ma get mine," Mayweather answers.
Alas, Thomas—despite playing with the Chicago Black Sox of recreational basketball—wins three out of five games in the series. He then gloats in Mayweather's face, which is the rarest of treats.
"That's game!" Thomas yells. "Forty-eight and three! That's game!"
And now, Mayweather's "that motherf----r can play" face:
"Hard work is easy work," Thomas says.
You've got to hand it to Mayweather. He didn't win, but he broke protocol and competed against someone in their prime—at their game, no less.
Dan is on Twitter. "That mother can blog" — Definitely Not Floyd Mayweather.
