Warriors' Draymond Green Reportedly Won't Be Suspended by NBA After Fight With Suns' Dillon Brooks
ESPN's Shams Charania doesn't believe Draymond Green will face additional punishment from the NBA after being ejected from Monday's 116-113 win over the Phoenix Suns in the third quarter after shoving Khaman Maluach to the ground and aggressively grabbing the jersey of Dillon Brooks.
"I can report, I do not expect him to have any more discipline on that," Charania said during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show (8:09 mark). "I don't expect the NBA to discipline Green any further for [the play in question]. So don't expect anything more, but Green clearly got his lick in there."
Green was given a technical after pushing Maluach to the ground and was issued a second technical for his confrontation with Brooks, leading to his ejection. Brooks was also given a technical.
"I was just trying to deescalate the whole thing," Brooks told reporters. "He did a lot there, fell down, and pushed him at the end of it. I was just trying to deescalate it. He was just tweaking all game. So let it be."
The Warriors trailed 67-57 at the time of the ejection but staged a comeback, with Warriors star Stephen Curry suggesting that moment played a role in turning the tide.
"He lit a fire in all of us and we had to respond," he told reporters. "So I'm glad we did. It was a combination of that moment and we got to have our brother's back when he defends us. But it was also this is one of those games, most of the guys are on a back-to-back. Phoenix had been off for a couple days... definitely that moment kept us in the moment."
Head coach Steve Kerr, meanwhile, said the matchup changed tactically after Green got the boot.
"It changed the game for Phoenix because they decided to go small after that," he told reporters. "So it kind of took [forward Oso] Ighodaro out of the game after that. So they played maybe 12 minutes of super small with [forward Ryan] Dunn at the 5. And it kind of opened up the game a little bit. Our crowd got into it and our guys just did a great job of finding energy on a back-to-back."
The Warriors moved to 5-3 on the season with the victory. Were the NBA to suspend Green for a game (or more), he would miss Thursday's home matchup against Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Miami Heat. But it sounds as though his punishment won't extend beyond the 23rd ejection of his career.
