Jaylen Brown Says 76ers Are Tyrese Maxey's Team, Says Star is 'Leading the Way'

Jaylen Brown says it's Tyrese Maxey, not LeBron James or Joel Embiid, leading the Philadelphia 76ers to their 7-1 start to the 2026-27 season.

"Maxey's been leading the way, 100 percent. He's been here. This is his team," Brown told reporters after the Sixers a Monday night blowout of the visiting Chicago Bulls.

"Him and Joel had been here for a while, so the mindset has been to complement those guys. I'm finding my footing, but Maxey's been leading the way for sure."

Maxey scored a game-high 26 points, including 15 in the fourth quarter, as the Sixers held onto their spot at the top of the Eastern Conference with a 126-107 win over the Bulls.

Maxey started out this offseason by playing a role in recruiting James to sign in Philadelphia this offseason.

He has since led the Sixers with 29.1 points per game over this early stretch while both Embiid (18.5 points per game) and James (16.2 points per game) have been held below their career averages.

Embiid acknowledged after the win over the Bulls it has been "a little bit of an adjustment" to play a game where he might go four or five possessions without touching the ball.

He added his new focus is being a "hub" to set up plays for teammates like Maxey.

The Sixers will continued dominance from Maxey, combined with Embiid, James and Brown settling into their new roles and the franchise finding a long-term option to serve as Embiid's backup, will make this team into a title contender down the stretch.
