Thunder Reportedly Sign Former 1st-Round NBA Draft Pick Amid Holmgren, Williams, Wallace Injuries
The injury-riddled Oklahoma City Thunder agreed to a two-year contract with free-agent guard Dalen Terry on Tuesday, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.
Terry, 24, was selected 18th overall in the 2022 NBA draft by the Chicago Bulls out of Arizona, spending parts of four seasons in Chicago before a stint with the Philadelphia 76ers last season.
OKC is without forward Jalen Williams and guard Cason Wallace for an undetermined amount of time after Williams underwent surgery on a fractured fibula and dislocated left ankle, and Wallace underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder.
It was also announced last week that All-Star center Chet Holmgren will miss eight to 10 weeks with a patellar tendon tear in his knee.
Terry has appeared in 218 career NBA regular-season games, starting only seven of them.
He owns averages of 3.5 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists per contest, while shooting 44.3 percent from the field and 31.4 percent from beyond the arc.
After getting waived by the Sixers this past offseason, Terry signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Golden State Warriors and played for them during the preseason before getting assigned to the G League's Santa Cruz Warriors.
Terry never got to play a game for Santa Cruz, though, as the Thunder came calling to fill one of the many holes on their roster created by injuries.
Reigning two-time NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has still managed to will the Thunder to a 5-2 start, but he hasn't had a ton of help.
Only two other healthy players on the roster are averaging double figures in scoring this season with Ajay Mitchell putting up 17.0 points per game and Jared McCain averaging 10.3.
OKC is likely to continue leaning heavily on those players moving forward, as well as Alex Caruso, Isaiah Hartenstein, Aday Mara and Kenrich Williams.
It is unclear how big of a role Terry will have initially, but with the Thunder severely lacking in terms of quality depth right now, it won't be a shock if he quickly works his way into the rotation.
