New Kyrie Irving Trade Rumors Reveal Mavs' Stance on PG amid Heat Buzz, Calls From NBA Teams
It doesn't sound like the Dallas Mavericks have any interest in trading Kyrie Irving.
"June is when the Mavs started telling teams Kyrie Irving is not available," NBA insider Marc Stein reported Monday. "You can call for him, we are not making him available."
His comments come after ESPN's Shams Charania appeared on the Pat McAfee Show late last month and reported "a slew of teams" were monitoring Irving (eight-minute mark). He also specifically highlighted the Miami Heat as a team that could be interested.
"I'm sure knowing the Heat, they're going to be monitoring Kyrie Irving," Charania reported (11:00 mark). "But there's gonna be several teams interested in Kyrie Irving. The question is if you're Miami, what can you give for Kyrie Irving? You already traded away three first-round picks and a swap and other assets to go get Giannis Antetokounmpo to bring to this team."
What's more, ESPN's Tim MacMahon reported Monday on The Hoop Collective that Irving is "the No. 1 thing people are asking me about" when he discusses Dallas with other executives and scouts in the NBA (11:38 mark).
Notably, Stein said much of the Irving buzz has come from the outside and not the Mavericks themselves.
"The media speculation and chatter about a Kyrie trade has increased, and I'm like, 'guys, the Mavs are 4-2. If they were 1-5 or even 2-4, I guess maybe then you could understand,'" he said. "But things have gone so well early, and the Mavs have consistently told teams they don't even want to field your call on Kyrie Irving."
It has been an impressive start for the Mavericks, and Irving is a major part of that while averaging 21.4 points per game.
However, he also turns 35 years old this season and has a player option for the 2027-28 campaign. Dallas is building around 19-year-old Cooper Flagg, so it is fair to speculate about Irving's immediate future since he is not on the same timeline as the franchise cornerstone.
He also isn't guaranteed to be in Dallas next season because of the player option, so the Mavericks may look to get something back for him if they do start to struggle as the season progresses.
For now, though, they reportedly aren't interested in trading him.
