76ers' Dean Wade Jokes About LeBron James Handshake After Viral Video, 'I Can't Do This Stuff'
Philadelphia 76ers forward Dean Wade discussed the simplistic nature of the handshake he shared with teammate LeBron James prior to the team's loss to the Detroit Pitons on Sunday.
After doing extravagant handshakes with Tyrese Maxey and Jaylen Brown, James shared a more traditional one with Wade, which turned the video into a viral sensation:
Speaking to reporters this week about the interaction, Wade said, "I just have the simple, 'Hire me' handshake. I try to stay out of it because I can't do this stuff."
Alex Coffey of the Philadelphia Inquirer later clarified that Wade's comment was made "in jest."
Per Coffey, specialized handshakes are something LeBron has done for the entirety of his career, including his stints with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers.
In addition to having a different handshake for every teammate, he also has greetings for "coaches, team attendants, locker room managers and photographers."
James and Wade are both newcomers to the Sixers this season, although LeBron's arrival was undoubtedly met with more fanfare.
It was a busy offseason in Philly with the signing of James and trade acquisition of Brown from the Boston Celtics, which are moves that instantly made the 76ers serious championship contenders.
Through five games, the Sixers are tied with the Pistons for the best record in the East at 4-1, solidifying their status as one of the teams to beat.
If that holds true, LeBron and his teammates could be sharing handshakes into June as part of a lengthy playoff run.
