The much-maligned statue of Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade outside the Miami Heat's Kaseya Center received some significant improvements this week.
On Friday, the Heat noted that the statue underwent some "enhancements," and shared photos of what looks to be a much better and more accurate likeness of D-Wade's face:
In a statement provided to Eric Nehm of The Athletic, statue artists Omri Amrany and Oscar Leon said, "After seeing the work at full scale and in its permanent environment, we identified opportunities to strengthen the portrait. We decided that the importance of Dwyane warranted making those refinements rather than accepting something we believed could be improved."
The statue, which was initially unveiled in 2024, was widely panned due to the notion that the face looked nothing like Wade, who led the Heat to three NBA championships.
