New NBA Rumors Reveal 'Frustration' in Suns' Locker Room over Roster Construction

Phoenix Suns players are reportedly unhappy with the franchise's decision to head into the 2026-27 season without a traditional starting point guard.

NBA insider Chris Haynes said in a Thursday appearance on NBA TV he feels there is "some growing frustration within that locker room for the simple fact that that roster does not have a point guard that can organize that offense."

"They're starting Devin Booker, Jalen Green and [Dillon] Brooks over there, and so you have a situation where you don't have a true traditional point guard that can get everybody looks and get everything organized," Haynes said.

Haynes concluded, "That's something that I don't know that the Suns are looking to address as of right now. The hope is that they can kind of play that role by committee, but as of right now, it's not looking like it."

The Suns added forward Miles Bridges this offseason but did not take a swing at available point guards such as former Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant.

Phoenix is now off to a 1-2 start to a season in which Booker, who is often functioning as the team's main distributor, has seen an inconsistent start on offense.

Booker didn't attempt a three-pointer in the Suns' season-opening loss to the Portland Trail Blazers. He then racked up 43 points in a win over the Golden State Warriors before being held to just three points in the Suns' Tuesday loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

General manager Brian Gregory said in a preseason appearance on Arizona Sports' Burns & Gambo Show he felt the Suns' offense could be more versatile if other players help Booker set up plays.

"In terms of the actual initiation of the offense, Book doesn't do a ton of that... I think the key is to have the right balance of Jalen Green, Devin Booker, Colin Gillespie," Gregory said in September. "We have wings, and big wings, and forwards that can now initiate the offense.

"So Koa Peat, Miles Bridges, defensive rebound. He doesn't have to throw an outlet, he's going to lead the break. That's where the game is now, because it gives you the versatility, and it puts guys that can score off the ball to be able to attack defenses before they're set."

The Suns are back in action for their second home game of the season Friday night.

Whether Phoenix can live up to Gregory's expectations and get more offensive momentum going against the visiting Denver Nuggets could play a role in whether this team considers adding to their backcourt down the stretch of the season.
