Kobe Bryant's Rare Game-Worn, Signed Air Jordan Shoes from 'Sneaker Free Agency' to Be Auctioned
A pair of game-worn and rare Air Jordan shoes from Kobe Bryant's "sneaker free agency season" during his illustrious career are being auctioned.
The Realest announced in a press release Wednesday it is auctioning the Air Jordan 8 sneakers that Bryant wore when he led the Los Angeles Lakers to a victory over the Boston Celtics on March 21, 2003. Each shoe features Bryant's signature and No. 8 inscription.
The auction closes on Nov. 8.
Bryant was signed to Adidas and Nike at different times during his career. However, he was a sneaker free agent during that 2002-03 campaign because he departed from Adidas and was yet to sign with Nike.
He wore different shoes during that season, including these Air Jordan exclusives that were specifically designed for him.
Bryant famously emulated Michael Jordan, especially early in his career. What's more, that 2002-03 season was the final one of His Airness' career.
As for Bryant, he appeared in all 82 games during that sneaker free agency season and finished third in MVP voting as an All-NBA First Team and All-Defensive First Team selection. His Lakers lost in the second round of the playoffs after taking home the previous three championships.
The Hall of Famer helped lead the Lakers to a 104-96 win over the Celtics in the game when he wore this pair of Air Jordan sneakers.ย
It wasn't a great scoring night, as he finished with 13 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the field. However, he impacted the game in other ways with seven assists, three rebounds, one block and one steal.
And now someone will have the chance to own the shoes he was wearing during the performance.
