'What the F--k is Wrong with Him,' Kevin Durant Reacts to Wemby Getting Blocked by Amen on Video

Kevin Durant questioned Victor Wembanyama's decision to try going for a layup over Amen Thompson in the final seconds of the Houston Rockets' 114-110 victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Friday night.

Durant told reporters after the win his reaction in the moment was "what the f--k is wrong with him" as Wembanyama tried to go for a layup with Thompson guarding him.

"I said, 'What the f--- is wrong with him, thinking he was just going to lay it up so easily?'" Durant said.

The Spurs were trailing 112-110 when they got the ball back with five seconds remaining coming out of a timeout. Wembanyama caught a pass in the post and turned to go for a layup, but Thompson met him in the air and got a hand on the ball despite the significant size difference between the two.

"I just knew they were going to try to get probably me or one of the other smaller guys on him," Thompson said of his game-saving play. "I jump pretty high, so I wouldn't try to keep ducking [in on] me."

Even though Thompson's offensive game has improved since he entered the NBA, his defense remains his primary calling card. He has finished top 10 in Defensive Player of the Year voting in each of the past two seasons and made the All-Defensive first team in 2024-25.

That defensive aptitude from Thompson was on full display in this moment. It was one of two blocks he had in this game, in addition to having 20 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.

With Fred VanVleet back for the Rockets after missing all of last season due to a torn ACL, Thompson no longer has to run point for the offense. Easing some of that burden on him could help him reach another level on defense.

If that ends up being the case, the Rockets could put themselves in the mix with the top-tier teams in the Western Conference as this season goes on.
