The Lakers and Clippers were tied 64 going into halftime. However, the Lakers dominated the third quarter, outscoring the Clips 39-26. That gave the Lakers enough of a cushion in the fourth quarter, where they led by double digits for most of it before a late Clipper run to cut the lead down to six.
The Lakers excelled despite an off-night from Luka Doncic, who shot 8-of-21 and committed a career-high 11 turnovers.
As always, though, Doncic remained productive with a 23-point, seven-assist, six-rebound night, and L.A. was plus-10 with him on the floor.
The Lakers shot 58 percent from the field and 44 percent from three. Lakers center Walker Kessler continued his incredible efficiency, scoring his 22 points on 10-of-14 shooting. He's now 22-of-26 on the year after making all 12 of his field goals in the Lakers' 127-105 season-opening win over the Golden State Warriors. Kessler also dominated defensively with nine combined blocks (six) and steals (three).
Austin Reaves also enjoyed an efficient evening, making 10-of-13 shots and 3-of-5 threes. Like Doncic, he struggled with turnovers (six), but his scoring output and assists (nine) more than made up for it in the victory.
Meanwhile, the Clippers fared well offensively when they got up shots, making 49 percent of their field goals and 43 percent of their three-pointers. However, the Clippers committed 25 turnovers, including nine from Darius Garland.
That being said, Garland scored 26 points, including six in a late 8-0 run that cut the Laker lead to 119-113 with 3:21 left. A six-point deficit was as close as the Clippers got down the stretch.
Clippers center Brook Lopez, in his 19th NBA season, posted 22 points on 8-of-9 shooting in just 20 minutes off the bench. Rookie guard Keaton Wagler added 13 points, and he's now averaging 14.0 PPG after a 15-point effort in the first game.
Both teams will hit the road on Sunday. The Lakers will visit the Utah Jazz, and the Clippers will play the Oklahoma City Thunder.
