Mitchell Robinson Didn't Watch Knicks' NBA Title Ring Ceremony, Reacts to 1st Win vs. NY on Celtics

Boston Celtics center Mitchell Robinson revealed during an interview with NBA on Prime Video's Cassidy Hubbarth why he didn't watch the championship ring ceremony of his former team, the New York Knicks. In essence, it was for practical reasons.

"I didn't have cable. We just came back from Detroit, and I don't have the channels on my phone and stuff like that," Robinson said.

When Hubbarth jokingly noted that this was part of the "moving process," Robinson agreed, with a smile.

In fairness to Robinson, watching the ceremony live may not have been convenient. The ceremony took place around 6:30-7 p.m. ET on Tuesday. Earlier in the afternoon, the Celtics visited Detroit for a 3 p.m. battle with the Pistons. The home team won, 121-113, and then the Celtics had to get ready and head back to Boston. In theory, Robinson could have perhaps multi-tasked, but he had business to attend to, ultimately.

Robinson played eight seasons on the Knicks and helped the team win the NBA title last year thanks to his strong rebounding, tenacious defense and infectious energy. He left in free agency for the C's, signing a three-year, $47.4 million contract.

It's clear there's still love between Robinson and the Knicks, as evidenced by the big man's comments that he still loves his old teammates. As Hubbarth noted, Knicks wing Josh Hart still saves Robinson's seat in film sessions.

Robinson faced his old Knicks team on Friday evening in Boston. The C's were victorious, 107-103, and Robinson started and played 22 minutes, posting four points, four rebounds, two assists and a block.

"They didn't want me?" Robinson said, per The Athletic's Fred Katz. "Yeah. That's what it felt like. … I was like, cool. There wasn't bad blood behind it. Man, fresh start."

Robinson added, per Katz, "The only thing that was kind of different was going to the rivals. But you know me, man. I like to troll. Nobody was happy with that move. But I was."
