Jaylen Brown Calls 'Cap' on Jayson Tatum for His Reaction to 76ers Trade in Trending Video
Jaylen Brown is seemingly not convinced his former Boston Celtics star teammate Jayson Tatum really had a shocked and emotional reaction to his offseason trade to the Philadelphia 76ers.
Brown responded to a clip of Tatum discussing his response to learning Brown had been traded with a cap emoji.
Tatum said in a video posted Thursday to his YouTube Channel he was "just as much caught off guard as the rest of the world" by the Brown trade.
He claimed he had first learned about the deal when ESPN reporter Shams Charania approached him after a pickup game in Las Vegas.
"Shams walks over," Tatum said. "He hands me the towel. He's like, 'Yo, put this over your face. Don't react. They just traded him.'"
"I'm like, 'Oh, s--t.' I'm like, 'Where?' He said, 'Philly.' I said, 'We traded him down the street?'"
Tatum went on to say it had always been "me and JB" throughout their decade-long tenure with the Celtics.
"Every time I stepped on the court, that when it was time to go to war, I looked to my left and my right, and No. 7 was over there, I knew that he was going to do everything it took for us to try to win," Tatum said.
"The way we pushed each other, I definitely made him better, and he made me better. And we made our team better, we made the organization better. We won a championship. We are forever stitched in stone in NBA history. We held up that trophy. It won't ever be forgotten."
Charania reported shortly after the Brown trade he and Tatum had a "non-existent" personal relationship off the court prior to the move.
The Brown trade sent Paul George and two first-round picks to Boston and ultimately played a role in drawing LeBron James to Philadelphia.
He made his Sixers debut Tuesday night with a season-opening win over the defending champion New York Knicks, while Tatum is still searching for his first victory of the post-Brown era after losing to the Detroit Pistons the same night.
