SGA's Streak Ends as Thunder Beat Nuggets, Box Score Stats, Highlights for Jokic, Chet, Murray, More

A pair of former MVPs matched up on Thursday as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Oklahoma City Thunder took on Nikola Jokić and the Denver Nuggets.

It was a slow night for both stars, but the Thunder walked away with a 96-84 win, improving to 2-0 after handing the Nuggets a loss in their season opener. Unfortunately for Gilgeous-Alexander, his 141-game streak with 20-plus points came to an end.

Player	Points	Rebounds	Assists	Steals	Blocks
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, OKC	17	2	3	0	1
Jalen Williams, OKC	21	5	3	0	0
Chet Holmgren, OKC	12	17	2	1	4
Ajay Mitchell, OKC	12	0	0	5	1
Nikola Jokić, DEN	13	7	5	1	1
Aaron Gordon, DEN	20	6	1	2	1
Jamal Murray, DEN	6	10	3	1	0
DeMar DeRozan, DEN	13	2	0	0	0

While the battle between Gilgeous-Alexander and Jokić was the storyline coming in, neither looked like their MVP selves.

Gilgeous-Alexander struggled to find his shot and didn't make a field goal until the second half. He finally got things going in the fourth quarter to help put the Nuggets away, but he couldn't avoid losing his impressive streak.

That led to Jalen Williams taking the reins on offense for most of the game.

There was also a lid on the basket for Jokić all game, as he shot a lackluster 5-of-19 from the field. Chet Holmgren's work clogging the paint didn't make things any easier for Jokić and the Nuggets' big men.

The Thunder and Nuggets have each had some of the best offenses in the NBA over the last few years, but the two teams are clearly still finding their shot early in the season.

OKC finished the game shooting 38 percent from the field and 26 percent from deep, while Denver shot 38 percent from the field and 27 percent from deep. The Nuggets also turned the ball over 22 times.

The Thunder ultimately snuck away with a win despite the cold night offensively, but both teams will be looking to improve when they meet again later this season.
