Carmelo Anthony Says 'It's Very Clear' 76ers are Tyrese Maxey's Team After Win vs. Knicks

The Philadelphia 76ers have no shortage of star power this season, but it is clear who the leader is going to be on the offensive side.

At least in the eyes of Hall of Famer Carmelo Anthony.

"It's very clear whose team it is," Anthony said of Tyrese Maxey on the latest episode of 7PM in Brooklyn (26:50 mark). "It's Maxey's team. This team is going to go where Maxey takes us."

Maxey is an offensive star, but it is still a head-turning statement considering one of the best players of all-time in LeBron James joined the roster this offseason. What's more, Joel Embiid and Jaylen Brown are on the team, but Anthony highlighted how it can all work.

"For Bron to give Maxey those keys and take a step back, but don't even take a step back, he takes a step to the side … now he gets a chance to just be creative," Anthony said. " … That's when it gets scary."

He also said "the East is in trouble" if it all clicks together early in the season without much time needed for adjustments.

And that seemed to be the case in Tuesday's opener when the 76ers defeated the reigning-champion New York Knicks 106-100 with Maxey taking over for stretches as a scorer on his way to a game-high 28 points, five assists, four rebounds, three steals and three blocks.

Brown (19 points), James (14) and Embiid (13) also finished in double figures in a balanced scoring display that was surely troubling to the rest of the East.

After all, if the 76ers have already figured out a scoring balance in the first game of the season against the reigning champions, it only figures to get better as the season progresses and they all get more experience playing alongside each other.

That is especially true if Maxey continues to assert himself as the go-to option.
