The Cardinals announced that Brown was not on the list of inactive players against the Cleveland Browns. However, Brown did not play a single snap and told reporters postgame it was the first game he had ever missed, adding he would be 100 percent after the team's bye week, via Kyle Odegard of the Arizona Cardinals.
Brown Gives Cardinals Added Dimension
The former third-round pick turned in a solid rookie campaign in 2014 on his way to 48 catches for 696 yards and five touchdowns. He was second on the team in receptions and third in receiving yards, and he boasts impressive speed in the open field.
Arizona frequently tried to get him the ball in open space so he could make defenders miss. He has accumulated 562 yards and three touchdowns on 37 receptions so far in 2015.
Craig Williams of Sporting News compared Brown to some impressive names before the 2015 season started:
"Could Cardinals WR John Brown be the next T.Y. Hilton and a breakout fantasy football sleeper in 2015? Considering they share similar speed (4.30-4.34 in the 40-yard dash) and size (5-10, 180-pound range) it’s no wonder Brown garnered comparisons to the Colts’ speedy receiver. Not to mention, Brown plays for Bruce Arians, who coached Hilton in Indianapolis.
While Hilton was more productive in his first year, Brown showed some Hilton-like flashes with his speed and big-play ability, particularly in the second half when he averaged 15.4 yards on his 24 catches.
"
That type of potential is bound to turn some heads, and the Cardinals could use their young playmaker at full strength. Fortunately for Cardinals fans, their team still has Michael Floyd and Larry Fitzgerald as potential options if Brown isn't able to perform.
Although Brown’s presence gives the offense more versatility and another speedy playmaker, the Cardinals still have the pieces to remain lethal between Fitzgerald, Floyd and a strong defense. A healthy Brown makes this team more dangerous, however.
