76ers' Joel Embiid Asks LeBron 'What Can I Do Better?' and Wants to Learn 'Championship Mentality'

Joel Embiid discussed how LeBron James' championship mindset can help the star center achieve more playoff success as the duo begins their shared tenure on the Philadelphia 76ers.

"I think the main thing is not necessarily about vets; it's where we're trying to go," Embiid told David Aldridge of The Athletic. "I think the biggest thing that someone like 'Bron adds, other than being LeBron James, is just championship mentality. I feel like I know what it takes to win, but I haven't done it. I'm looking for guidance on, like, what am I doing wrong? I want to learn a little bit more. Like, I feel like I know a lot, but then again, I'm still willing to learn. All these years, I haven't really had that championship mentality around me. So it's like, what can I do better?"

James signed a two-year contract to join the 76ers as a free agent on July 24, continuing a busy offseason in which the team previously acquired five-time All-Star Jaylen Brown in a blockbuster trade with the Boston Celtics.

Philadelphia added plenty of experience by bringing in James, as the 41-year-old has captured four championships and made 10 NBA Finals appearances throughout his stellar career.

James has scored 8,521 total points in the playoffs, while no other player in NBA history has crossed the 6,000-point threshold in the postseason.

He'll look to help a 76ers squad attempting to contend for the Eastern Conference crown.

Embiid has established himself as an elite offensive force since joining Philadelphia in 2014, racking up seven All-Star nods, five All-NBA selections, two scoring titles and one MVP award.

The 76ers have failed to make an Eastern Conference Finals appearance in all eight of his playoff runs, though.

Embiid and James helped Philadelphia secure an impressive win over the New York Knicks to begin its 2026-27 campaign on Tuesday night, taking down the defending champions by the final score of 106-100.
