New NBA Rumors on Jaylen Brown-Jayson Tatum Relationship Since Celtics-76ers Blockbuster Trade

Paul KasabianOct 16, 2026

Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum haven't really spoken since the Boston Celtics traded Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers last July, per ESPN's Malika Andrews (7:45 mark).

"I was in Philadelphia for media day," Andrews said. "I asked Jaylen Brown whether or not he'd spoken to Jayson Tatum since the exit, and he was a little bit murky, but the essence was: 'No, not really. I went my way and he went his way.'"

Brown previously told reporters at his Aug. 6 introductory press conference he and Tatum, who were Celtics teammates from 2017-2026, have "not really" been able to speak since the trade occurred.

Although the two haven't spoken with each other, Brown made it clear during his introductory press conference he respects Tatum

"We won a championship together. Anybody that you win a championship with, you would think that's what a brotherhood or a lifelong legacy would entail," Brown after reporter Bob Manning of CLNS Media Boston Sports Network (h/t Justin Turpin of WEEI) asked him about his relationship with Tatum.

"Obviously, there are ups and downs in any relationship, for sure. But on my end, it's nothing but respect, besides when he plays the Sixers. I hope he does well. But other than that, everything for me is just based in respect."

Tatum made it clear during a Sept. 17 interview on the Dan Patrick Show that he loves Brown.

Although it doesn't appear that Tatum and Brown have spoken much at all since the trade, there aren't any outward signs of animosity or iciness.

Ultimately, the two superstars may have simply moved on. Both have their own responsibilities on Eastern Conference contenders. Brown is on the star-laden 76ers, who also added LeBron James to a team that reached the second round last year. Tatum is the clear alpha now on Boston, which is still trying to remain competitive despite losing Brown. The C's have a host of talents still, including newly acquired Paul George, Payton Pritchard and Derrick White.

The Celtics and 76ers will begin their season series on Nov. 10 in Philadelphia.
