New Knicks Rumors Reveal Trade Candidates with Bruce Brown Pushing for Roster Spot

Mike ChiariOct 16, 2026

The New York Knicks are reportedly expected to pursue a trade in order to make room for veteran guard Bruce Brown on their roster.

According to SNY's Ian Begley, there is "strong support" within the organization to keep Brown in the fold, and if the Knicks are going to do that, they must make a trade by Monday.

Begley expects the Knicks to "explore all avenues" in order to do so, and named Pacรดme Dadiet and Tyler Kolek as the team's prime trade candidates.

It was also noted by Begley that the Knicks want to avoid taking in salary in the trade, and they may need to attach a second-round pick to the player they send away, of which they have 11 over the next seven drafts.

Coming off their first NBA championship since 1973, the Knicks are essentially returning the same core as last season, led by Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby, Mikal Bridges, Josh Hart, Miles McBride, Landry Shamet and Jose Alvarado.

New York is looking to round the roster out with some veteran depth, though, making Brown a potentially great fit.

The 30-year-old veteran has spent eight seasons in the NBA, playing for the Detroit Pistons, Brooklyn Nets, Denver Nuggets, Indiana Pacers, Toronto Raptors and New Orleans Pelicans.

He's averaged 8.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists per contest over 539 career regular-season games, and he is a one-time NBA champion, having won a title with the Nuggets in 2023.

Brown was a significant contributor during the playoffs that year as well, averaging 12.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.1 steals over 20 postseason games.

Given that the Knicks are the reigning champions and legitimate threats to repeat, it makes sense for them to want an experienced, battle-tested player like Brown on the bench.

Dadiet and Kolek may have more long-term potential, but neither of them have played a significant role over their two NBA seasons.

Both selected in the 2024 NBA draft, Dadiet went 25th overall in the first round and Kolek went 44th overall in the second round.

A 6'9" forward from France, Dadiet has averaged just 1.7 points and 1.0 rebounds per game in 47 career appearances.

Meanwhile, Kolek is a 6'2" guard who has fared better, averaging 3.4 points, 2.3 assists and 1.2 rebounds over 103 games.

Both players were used sparingly during the Knicks' playoff run, though, and it is fair to assume Brown would be more valuable to the team come playoff time this coming season.

The Knicks will begin their 2026-27 regular-season schedule on Tuesday when they hoist their championship banner and welcome the Philadelphia 76ers into Madison Square Garden.
