Steve Kerr Drops Honest Quote on Stephen Curry's Workload to Open Warriors Season After Knee Injury

Andrew PetersOct 15, 2026

At this point in his career, Stephen Curry likely isn't going to play all 82 games of the regular season, and Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr told fans to keep that in mind when they're purchasing tickets.

Kerr told fans to "be mindful" of the schedule, especially early in the year, as the team navigates quick turnaround and back-to-back games.

"We'll start trying to map out, week by week, what's what," Kerr told reporters Thursday. "But to be really frank, every year we run into this (situation) where, if we have a bunch of games stacked together, back-to-backs, we have fans that buy tickets expecting to see Steph โ€” usually Steph, sometimes other players, people expecting to see vets โ€” and then we have a back-to-back, and we don't play 'em. So, I would just come out and tell the fans out there to be mindful when you're buying the tickets of the schedule. Take a look. Because we've got not just Steph but multiple vets we are going to try and manage, because it's the only way we can do this."

Curry played 74 games in 2023-24 and 70 games in 2024-25, but was limited to just 43 games last season because of a persistent knee issue. Even if Curry avoids missing serious time, it's hard to imagine he'll be playing in both games of a back-to-back at 38 years old.

Golden State opens the regular season against the Los Angeles Lakers next Wednesday and then very quickly gets into the types of stretches that Kerr was referring to. The Dubs will play the Memphis Grizzlies for their home opener next Friday and have a quick turnaround, playing against the Phoenix Suns the following day.

Curry would surely like to be able to play every game and give fans a show, but the reality is that he needs to preserve himself so he's ready to go for the postseason.
