NBA GMs Pick MVP, Champion, ROY, Top Offseason Moves, More in Annual Survey

Twenty-three of 30 NBA general managers believe that San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama will win his first-ever NBA MVP award this upcoming season.

Those results were revealed in the 25th and latest edition of the Annual NBA GM Survey, which dropped Thursday courtesy of NBA.com's John Schuhmann.

General managers answered 48 questions in the survey. Here's a look at answers from some of the most notable questions, including MVP, champion, rookie of the year, top offseason moves and more.

NBA MVP

  • 1. San Antonio Spurs C Victor Wembanyama, San Antonio (23 votes)
  • 2. Denver Nuggets C Nikola Jokiฤ‡ (3 votes)
  • 3. Minnesota Timberwolves SG Anthony Edwards (2 votes)
  • 4. Oklahoma City Thunder PG Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Boston Celtics F Jayson Tatum (1 vote each)

NBA Champion

  • 1. San Antonio Spurs (15 votes)
  • 2. Oklahoma City Thunder (13 votes)
  • 3. New York Knicks (1 vote)
  • 4. Philadelphia 76ers (1 vote)

Rookie of the Year

  • 1. Memphis Grizzlies F Cameron Boozer (15 votes)
  • 2. Chicago Bulls F Caleb Wilson (6 votes)
  • 3. Washington Wizards F AJ Dybantsa (5 votes)
  • 4. Utah Jazz G Darryn Peterson

Team That Made Best Offseason Moves

  • 1. Philadelphia 76ers (22 votes)
  • 2. Miami Heat (3 votes)
  • 3. Charlotte Hornets (2 votes)
  • 4. Boston Celtics, Minnesota Timberwolves, Toronto Raptors (1 vote each)

Other questions included biggest draft steal (Milwaukee Bucks guard Brayden Burries, 10 votes), best head coach (Miami Heat's Erik Spoelstra, 13 votes), most fun team to watch (Minnesota Timberwolves and San Antonio Spurs, nine votes each) and most improved team (Indiana Pacers, 13 votes).

Regarding MVP, it's no surprise Wembanyama is leading the way, even if Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is the back-to-back award winner. The 22-year-old is an ascending superstar who just averaged 25.0 points, 11.5 rebounds and an NBA-high 3.1 blocks in his third season en route to leading the 62-win Spurs to a Western Conference title.

The Spurs have the slight edge on the Thunder for the championship, but it's clear those two are far-and-away the top contenders on paper. Oklahoma City won 64 games last year and cruised to the Western Conference Finals after back-to-back sweeps, but they fell in seven to the Spurs. Both teams returned their talents and added some more in hopes of securing the Larry O'Brien Trophy.

Rookie of the Year looks to be a heated race. Memphis Grizzlies forward Cameron Boozer and Chicago Bulls forward Caleb Wilson are going to get many chances to star and be featured for their young, rebuilding teams and could vault themselves up the ROY race because of them.

As for top offseason moves, it's no surprise the Philadelphia 76ers are No. 1 after adding Jaylen Brown and LeBron James, forming one of the NBA's best starting lineups. The 76ers should be a strong Eastern Conference contender and arguably stand as the Knicks' biggest threat to back-to-back titles.

The NBA season begins on Tuesday with a triple-header headlined by the Knicks hosting James and the 76ers.
