LeBron James Explains Why He Thinks OG Anunoby Was Knicks' NBA Finals MVP Over Jalen Brunson

Philadelphia 76ers forward LeBron James believes forward OG Anunoby was the New York Knicks' MVP in last season's Finals, per comments made on his Mind the Game podcast with Steve Nash amid a 2026-27 season preview (5:20 mark).

Anunoby averaged 21.2 points on 52.5 percent shooting, 4.8 rebounds, 1.4 blocks and 1.4 steals in five NBA Finals games against the San Antonio Spurs. His game-winning tip-in in Game 4 to complete a 29-point comeback in a 107-106 victory is one of the more iconic NBA moments in recent memory.

He was incredible all game, though, finishing with 33 points and providing great defense, including a game-saving block on Spurs point guard De'Aaron Fox on the previous possession.

Knicks captain and guard Jalen Brunson ended up winning NBA Finals MVP, and that award certainly made sense given that he averaged a series-high 32.6 points per game. That included a 45-point effort in the series-closing Game 5, which the Knicks won 94-90.

However, Anunoby was sensational as well and did all the little things, as James noted.

James and the 76ers will visit the Knicks to open their regular season on Tuesday, Oct. 20.
