Wolves' Chris Finch Calls Out Flopping, Hopeful NBA 'Cleans Up This Crap' During 2026-27 Season

Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch made his opinion on flopping perfectly clear heading into the 2026-27 season.

"Hopefully the league cleans up this crap, because nobody wants to watch it," Finch said Wednesday, per Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic. "That's what they said was the feedback from the fans. They're tired of watching the flopping. And we know that it's been rewarded at too high a level, so just stop rewarding the flopping."

Krawczynski noted the league is focused on reducing flopping this season by reviewing plays after games and potentially issuing fines when needed. What's more, officials are being tasked with making more calls during the games, such as issuing technical fouls for flopping.

Notably, such a technical foul would not count toward a player's two that would lead to an ejection.

"The league made clear that the Competition Committee drew a line between flopping on non-calls and embellishing contact, saying it would not punish embellishments such as head snaps," Krawczynski explained.

"They said they're going to be more aggressive in calling technicals against flopping or fining after the fact," Finch said. "For me it's a simple fix. Just don't reward these non-basketball actions. That's it. Those of us who have been in the sport long enough know what it is and what it isn't."

Minnesota was seventh in the league in free-throw attempts per game last season even though, in the words of Finch, "We don't teach flopping here."

Perhaps with the league cracking down on flopping this season, the Timberwolves will climb even higher in those ratings as other teams that have relied on the practice see their free-throw attempts drop.

Finch will surely be paying attention to the issue when Minnesota starts its season on Oct. 21 against the Miami Heat.
