13 of the Wildest Athlete Houses

The paydays for the world's best athletes keep getting bigger. The same goes for their real estate portfolios.

With multi-million-dollar contracts, huge endorsement deals and more, sports stars boast some of the world's most stunning and elaborate homes. Not all megamansions are created equal, though.

While most of us can only ever dream of living in any of these places, there's no price tag on a little lighthearted judgment. With that in mind, take a look at some of the wildest athlete homes to date.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Ronaldo's real estate portfolio is among the most extensive in the sports world. He has properties spread across Portugal, Spain, Italy, the Middle East and more.

The crown jewel might be his estimated £30 million home in Quinta da Marinha on Portugal's Cascais coast. The property was under construction for more than three years, and Ronaldo and his family reportedly plan to settle there after his retirement, according to Phil Cardy of the Mirror.

Given its desirable location and unique customizations, it is one of the most expensive private homes in the country.

The mansion includes plenty of personal touches and quirks, like a giant glass swimming pool with an underwater walkway so guests can see who is swimming above. The property includes two swimming pools (one indoor and one outdoor), a gym, a spa, a screening room and extensive landscaped gardens.

Derek Jeter

Can you imagine owning a home so elaborate that it earned a nickname? Derek Jeter's famous waterfront mansion, nicknamed "St. Jetersburg," was actually located in Tampa, not St. Petersburg, but close enough. 

Jeter owned the 20,000-plus-square-foot mega-mansion when he was playing for the New York Yankees, as it was conveniently located near their spring training facilities. The seven-bedroom, eight-full-bathroom home included an elaborate spa, multiple yacht decks, and two separate three-car garages.

It has since been torn down, but not before Jeter rented it to Tom Brady when he started playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. 

Just like we'll always look back on Jeter's career as larger than life, we'll remember St. Jetersburg in all its glory.

Greg Norman's former "Tranquility" estate

Aussie golf legend Greg Norman decided to downsize as he hit his 70s, but he and his family lived in an extravagant estate named Tranquility in Jupiter, Florida, for nearly 30 years. 

Sold in 2021 for $55.1 million, the 8.3-acre compound is truly a sight to behold. It had more than 30,000 square feet of living space, according to Coldwell Banker, and boasted 10 bedrooms, 12 bathrooms and six half-bathrooms. 

The estate had a dock that could accommodate a 150-foot yacht, along with a U.S. Open-sized tennis court, per Janice O'Leary of Yahoo.

Tiger Woods

This list wouldn't be complete without a nod to Tiger Woods' oceanside mansion on Jupiter Island. Reportedly worth around $54 million, the property is where Woods has spent most of his time since it was completed in 2011. 

Woods' mansion sits on several acres and features its own golf course, basketball court, tennis courts, swimming pools and a state-of-the-art gym. There are gorgeous ocean views and living areas, but the fitness and training facilities truly set Woods' estate apart.

Known for his love of privacy—which is also the name of his yacht—Woods designed this place so he can stay on top of his golf game and fitness regimen without ever leaving the house. 

Oh, and that yacht? It's docked on the private beach that is part of the property.

Woods' place is every introverted athlete's dream. 

Floyd Mayweather

Floyd Mayweather's primary residence is a sprawling $10 million compound in the exclusive Queensridge community of Las Vegas. The 22,000-square-foot compound features a main house, two guest houses, 11 bedrooms, 14 bathrooms, a 1.41-acre vineyard and, of course, a 20-car subterranean garage. 

Perhaps the most distinct external feature of the compound is the gorgeous, oh-so-Vegas fountain. 

This isn't even the most expensive mansion Mayweather has purchased. His properties in Beverly Hills and Florida cost more. But there's something so charming, elaborate and distinctly Vegas about this one.

Shaquille O'Neal

You know the man known for his many endorsement deals—along with his Hall of Fame NBA career, of course—has lived in some epic places. Shaquille O'Neal's former 31,000-square-foot Orlando mansion is the most elaborate.

The 12-bedroom lakeside home is in the exclusive Isleworth Community, a 600-acre golf-club community bordering a lake. There are personalized Shaq touches all over it, like a 6,000-square-foot indoor basketball court, a 17-car garage, a 95-foot-long pool, and Superman branding throughout.

Serena Williams

Serena Williams' 14,500-square-foot waterfront Florida home is modern with a personal flair. Serena designed it with help from none other than her sister, Venus.

In an interview with Architectural Digest, Williams said they transformed the house from Spanish-style to a more contemporary feel.

"I was moving away from Venus for the first time in my life, so I wanted it to be really meaningful," she said. "You have to know your lane. I'm really good at playing tennis; I'm not as good at interiors. But I was able to learn through just watching Venus."

The modern art and personal touches make the place feel less like a property and more like a home. Unlike most athletes on this list, Serena intentionally opted for no tennis court to keep work and home life separate. Instead, the home features a private trophy room for her awards, a gym, a sauna, and a princess-themed room for her daughter, Olympia.

Joe Montana

For those seeking that distinct Tuscan style as opposed to a more modern look, Joe Montana's former home is the pinnacle.

The Tuscan-style villa spans 500 acres of California's Napa Valley wine country. Of course there's a wine cellar. It can hold 3,500 bottles, and it also holds olive oil sourced from the estate's own olive trees, according to Amy Graff of SF Gate.

We could go on about the features of the home, like a professional equestrian center, tons of outdoor sports amenities and Napa Valley views. Still, the stunning architecture featuring European antiques, imported 16th-century iron gates and antique marble floors and attention to Tuscan-style detail steal the show.

Dwyane Wade

This Miami stunner, which Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union sold in 2021 for $22 million, is more like a personal resort.

Spanning 12,000 square feet, the six-bedroom property features a private basketball court, a chef's kitchen, a wine room, and a state-of-the-art theater.

According to Claudine Zap of Realtor.com, the home also has a "private dock, a pool, a gazebo with a bar, an outdoor kitchen and a Miami Heat-themed basketball court."

Alex Rodriguez

These recent Yankees legends have a keen eye for real estate. A-Rod's home in Coral Gables, Florida, has earned praise from experts like Architectural Digest for good reason.

The mid-century modern property spans 11,877 square feet and features all of the lavish amenities we've come to expect out of athlete homes like a basketball court. But Rodriguez's extensive art collection, including some Andy Warhols, steals the show.

LeBron James

What does a castle fit for a King look like?

In 2020, LeBron James took a nearly $37 million Beverly Hills mansion off the market, a home that has been home to several Hollywood stars over the years. He still has the Akron mansion that he bought at 18, among other residences, but his latest is a sight to see.

The main house spans nearly 16,000 square feet across two stories, per Charlie Lankston of Realtor.com, and James has done significant work to update it with modern luxuries, including a home theatre. There's no bowling alley like he has in his Akron place, but when in Hollywood, you opt for the home theatre. 

Before James got to work on his renovations, the grounds boasted a tennis court, a pool house and two guest houses. And of course, there's a customized basketball court. 

Michael Jordan

Maybe instead of asking ourselves who's the GOAT on the court, we can ask ourselves who has the best real estate portfolio between Michael Jordan and LeBron James. 

Jordan may no longer reside in his famous Chicago mansion, but his fingerprints are all over it. 

The nine-bedroom, 15-bathroom estate features an entertainment area, a state-of-the-art gym, a putting green and, of course, a full size indoor basketball court.

Jordan famously struggled to sell the place due to the high asking price and the larger-than-life feel of it all, but that doesn't mean it isn't an amazing property. Maybe he should've considered turning it into a museum. 

Stephen Curry

Back in 2020, Steph Curry bought a three-story Silicon Valley mansion for $30 million in the most expensive zip code in the U.S., according to Kasia Pawlowska of SF Gate.

The modern-style home is sleek as can be, with stucco and glass everywhere you look. The property offers more than 17,000 square feet of living space, including seven bedrooms and eight-and-a-half bathrooms, plus a guest house and a walnut orchard.

The Currys sold the house earlier this year for $29 million, which sparked debate about Steph's future in the Bay Area. But he was likely just playing the real estate game since he recently signed an extension with the Warriors.
