LeBron James Says 76ers Will Need 'Bunker Mentality' to Combat Narratives During 2026-27 NBA Season

LeBron James explained that the Philadelphia 76ers must prevent media narratives from affecting the team throughout the 2026-27 season.

"We've got to have a bunker mentality," James said on his Mind the Game podcast (47:50 mark). "It's unfortunate, but very fortunate. The noise that comes with me, good, bad, indifferent. Everything, it's a little different. Is it warranted? I don't even know. If we have a bunker mentality on like, 'Nothing matters outside what we have.' Whether we're at the practice facility or we at the arena, nothing matters. Everyone's gonna have their opinion."

"The only thing that matters is what we preach every day and how we're gonna hold each other accountable," he added.

The 76ers wrapped up a busy offseason in which they added James and five-time All-Star Jaylen Brown to a core that includes Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe.

Philadelphia's moves have generated plenty of attention, which should only continue to grow once the 2026-27 season begins.

Embiid's injury history has been widely discussed in recent years, while Brown's relationship with former teammate Jayson Tatum was under the spotlight as he exited the Boston Celtics.

Maxey and Edgecombe proved to be an explosive young backcourt and helped Philadelphia make a second-round playoff appearance last season, but questions could arise if the guards aren't as productive with two new stars entering the mix.

As James gears up for his 24th year in the NBA, he doesn't want his new teammates to be impacted by any outside noise.
