LeBron James Wants to Give 'Blueprint' to Joel Embiid, Help Complete 'The Process' with 76ers

Thirteen years after the Philadelphia 76ers entered their "Trust the Process" era, LeBron James is focused on helping the franchise fulfill their ultimate goal by winning an NBA championship.

On the latest Mind the Game episode released Friday (starts at 15:45 mark), James explained he wants to give the "blueprint" of what it takes to win at the highest level to Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey in order to help the Sixers complete "the process" this season.

Later in the episode (starts at 20:45 mark), James said Embiid's presence and a desire to help him win influenced his decision to sign with Philadelphia:

"He's done everything in our league. And the only thing he has not done — that's win a championship. And I want to try to help him get that first one. He's been the MVP of our league, has a gold medal, All-Stars, signature shoes, bunch of money, beautiful family. He has everything. He has the city on his back. It's been the process, you know, for what 10 years, 12 years or however long he's been there. But, I mean, I think it's time now that we even dig even deeper into the process, and I hope that I can be kind of that final little piece that can help him get over the hump and maybe just see it a little bit differently than he's seen it in his career, as far as the day-to-day process, the day-to-day what it takes to get there."

The Process went from being a rallying cry in the early days of their franchise rebuild to almost a parody of itself in recent years as the Sixers have failed to make positive progress.

Of the nine times the 76ers have made the playoffs in Embiid's career, they have yet to advance beyond the second round. Their most recent second-round exit was a sweep at the hands of the New York Knicks last season.

That defeat seemed to help signal a shift in the front office about significantly changing the roster. The three most important pieces from last year's group remain in place with Embiid, Maxey and VJ Edgecombe all on the roster.

James and Jaylen Brown are entering the fray, with head coach Nick Nurse being tasked with making all of the pieces fit together.

There aren't many players better suited for Embiid to take the lead from than James, who is entering his 24th NBA season. He has remained durable in the latter stages of his career with at least 60 games played in each of the last three seasons.

The arrival of James and Brown also helps Embiid by taking some of the burden off his shoulders. Now they have multiple go-to scoring options in close and late-game situations in ways they haven't for most of his career.

Embiid's upside makes him arguably the most talented player on the Sixers, but they don't have to rely on him to be the best player on the floor in every game to give them a chance to win at the highest level.

It's a great position for Embiid and the 76ers to be in as they get ready to kick off training camp on Tuesday.
