New NBA Rumors on Jalen Duren's Rare Weight Clause in Pistons' $200M Contract Offer

The Detroit Pistons' latest contract offer to restricted free-agent center Jalen Duren reportedly includes an uncommon weight clause.

According to Hunter Patterson and Sam Amick of The Athletic, the Pistons have offered Duren a five-year, $200 million deal with the added caveat of a weight clause that would require Duren to weigh in monthly over the course of the year.

League sources indicated to Patterson and Amick that the weight clause would serve as an incentive in the contract rather than something that could result in it getting voided or lessened in base value.

Listed at 6'10" and 250 pounds, the 22-year-old Duren has long been viewed as a player who has a chiseled physique rather than a weight issue.

One league source even told Patterson and Amick that Duren "looks like a Greek statue."

The Pistons' concerns about Duren's weight reportedly came as a surprise to Duren and his representation during contract negotiations.

Per Patterson and Amick, Duren's struggles during the playoffs last season resulted in decision-makers within the Pistons' organization coming to the conclusion that they would prefer Duren to play at a lighter weight.

Selected 13th overall in the 2022 NBA draft out of Memphis, Duren enjoyed the best season of his young career in 2025-26, averaging a career-high 19.5 points per game on 65.0 percent shooting to go along with 10.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists.

Duren was named an All-Star and All-NBA Third Team selection for the first time as a result, but he did not perform at the same level come playoff time.

Appearing in 14 playoff contests for the top-seeded Pistons, Duren averaged 10.2 points on 51.4 percent shooting, plus 8.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists.

The Pistons were one of the NBA's biggest surprises last season, leading the Eastern Conference with a 60-22 record, but they fell short of the Eastern Conference Finals, losing in seven games to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the second round.

Duren's contract situation has been one of the biggest storylines throughout the offseason, but things have to come to a head soon since the Pistons are set to open training camp next week before beginning their regular-season schedule on Oct. 20.

According to Patterson and Amick, Duren is considering accepting his one-year, $9.6 million qualifying offer prior to the Oct. 1 deadline since it would allow him to become an unrestricted free agent next offseason.
