Kawhi Leonard, Raptors Agree to New Contract After Clippers Trade, Details Revealed

After returning to the Toronto Raptors in a trade from the Los Angeles Clippers, Kawhi Leonard has inked a new deal.

The star signed a two-year, $115 million contract with the Raptors, with a player option for the 2028-29 season, agent Harrison Gaines told ESPN's Shams Charania on Tuesday.

Leonard was previously on a three-year, $149.5 million deal through the 2026-27 season that he signed with the Clippers in 2024.

The Clippers first agreed to trade Leonard to the Raptors on June 30 for a package that included Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick and picks, but the deal wasn't finalized until Sept. 14 as the NBA continued its investigation into Los Angeles over salary cap circumvention.

The trade reunited Leonard and the Raptors after seven years apart.

Leonard's first tenure in Toronto was brief but memorable. He had one of the best regular seasons of his career before leading the Raptors to their first and only championship.

Leonard put together one of the best individual playoff runs of all time, averaging 30.5 points, 9.1 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game on the way to winning Finals MVP.

The Leonard who returned to the Raptors this offseason is much older and has dealt with various injuries over the past few years, so he might not be the same version that brought a title to Toronto.

Still, Leonard had an outstanding 2025-26 campaign that saw him put up 27.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.9 steals per game in 65 contests with the Clippers.

He might not be at the peak of his prime anymore, but he's still one of the best players in the league when he's healthy.

The Raptors have their work cut out for them competing in a stacked Eastern Conference, but the pairing of Leonard and Scottie Barnes should keep them in the mix.

And now having signed a new deal with Toronto, Leonard is committed to the Raptors for at least a few more seasons.
