Malik Nabers' 'Murky' Injury Update Revealed in New NFL Rumors Ahead of Giants' Game vs. Cowboys

New York Giants fans reportedly may have to wait for Malik Nabers' season debut.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported ahead of Sunday night's game against the Dallas Cowboys that the wide receiver's "status is best described as murky at best. Very much up in the air for the New York Giants. It does not seem to me like something they are counting on."

The Giants seemed to be preparing for Nabers' potential absence when they elevated wide receivers Dalen Cambre and Braxton Berrios from the practice squad.

Rapoport described the moves as "insurance."

While Nabers did practice in full leading up to the game against the division-rival Cowboys, he is also coming off a torn ACL that limited him to just four games last season.

Earlier in training camp, the wide receiver took a long-term view on his recovery when asked whether he would be available for Week 1:

"The most important thing is my health," Nabers said. "The most important thing is just completing every milestone that they have in front of me, giving good effort, continuing to come out here and be a great teammate to my teammates."

Nabers is just 23 years old and surely expected to be a franchise cornerstone for years to come in New York. While having him on the field would elevate the team's chances against the Cowboys, there is more than just this game to consider when it comes to his return.

The LSU product wasted no time establishing himself as a star with 109 catches for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns as a rookie in 2024, and getting him back to that level for the foreseeable future will help the Giants once again become contenders in the NFC East after finishing with a losing record in eight of the last nine seasons.

It remains to be seen whether he will return to the field in Week 1, but even the chance he will be available suggests he will be back in the lineup in the near future.
