'Very Realistic' Karl-Anthony Towns, Josh Hart Take Discounts on Knicks Contracts, NBA Insider Says

Keeping a championship team together takes sacrifice from star players, and it appears the New York Knicks have two players willing to do so.

Per The Athletic's James L. Edwards III, it is "very realistic" that Karl-Anthony Towns and Josh Hart take "discounts" this offseason, as neither will receive the max extensions they're eligible for.

Towns is eligible for a four-year extension worth $272 million, though it has been speculated for months that he won't end up signing for that much. Towns was a pivotal part of the Knicks' championship run, but it's fair to say that he isn't worth that kind of money at this point in his career.

Hart can sign a four-year, $132 million deal now, but Edwards reported earlier this month that those around the league see him signing a three-year deal with a range between $54 million and $62 million.

The Knicks lost one part of their championship core this summer when Mitchell Robinson signed with the Boston Celtics, but securing Towns and Hart for the next few years would help New York stay relevant in a competitive Eastern Conference.
