Saquon Barkley Calls Out 'Immature' Training Camp Fights Amid Eagles-Patriots Joint Practices

With joint practices in training camp comes tension, hostility and often fights.

Veteran running back Saquon Barkley isn't a fan of joint practices because of that, and he called out the "immature" skirmishes that broke out during the Philadelphia Eagles' practice with the New England Patriots.

"I'm the wrong guy to ask because I hate joint practices, to be honest. I think one day is good," he said when asked about the benefits Thursday, per ESPN's Tim McManus.

"More times than not nothing good comes out of it. When you have the work it's good, but then you get the pushing, the shoving and someone says this about you and it's 'I don't know about that but you're this.' It's immature when you get to that level. I have to do a better job, too, because I'm a little troublemaker sometimes, but I was good this week."

Barkley was involved in a brief scrum with the Patriots' defense, and Eagles tackle Lane Johnson and Patriots linebacker K.J. Britt got into it as well, grabbing each other by the face masks.

"That's bound to happen after Day 2," Barkley said.

"Obviously football is a physical game within itself and it's just a little extra pushing and shoving. We've also got to do a better job of not allowing that to have a factor in our practice."

There are perhaps some benefits of joint practice, mainly that players get the chance to go against someone who doesn't wear the same jersey as them, but tussles like the ones that happened this week are mostly unavoidable.

The Eagles and Patriots will play a preseason game on Saturday, and whether the fights will continue into a more organized game remains to be seen.
