New DeMar DeRozan Rumors Reveal Potential Landing Spot After Peyton Watson Trade to Cavs
The Denver Nuggets reportedly are eyeing a veteran All-Star after trading Peyton Watson on Wednesday.
Per NBA insider Chris Haynes, the Nuggets "have their eyes on" DeMar DeRozan, who is a free agent following his release from the Sacramento Kings earlier this offseason.
The potential move comes amid a tough salary cap constraint for Denver:
While the 37-year-old DeRozan is far past his prime, he could surely still make an impact on the Nuggets. Last season, he put up 18.4 points, 4.1 assists and 2.9 rebounds per game for the Kings.
Perhaps DeRozan's most impressive stat is that he's played 74 or more games in each of the last five years. That kind of durability is rare in the NBA, especially for an aging player.
Denver is hoping to stay relevant in a competitive Western Conference, and a player like DeRozan is bound to give it a much-needed boost on offense.
But the Nuggets will have some competition in the race for DeRozan, as the Washington Wizards and the Miami Heat reportedly have interest in him as well. All three options could be intriguing for DeRozan depending on what he's looking for at this point in his career.
In Denver, he'd get to play alongside Nikola Jokić, who makes everyone around him better, and that roster would surely be able to make a run in the West.
In Washington, he'd get to team up with Anthony Davis, Trae Young and AJ Dybantsa on a young team that could make noise in the East.
Miami would give DeRozan the chance to play with Giannis Antetokounmpo after he was traded this offseason. DeRozan, Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo would at least be able to give the stacked Eastern Conference a little bit of trouble.
Where DeRozan will end up remains to be seen, but he's still after his first championship, and his desire to win a title will surely motivate his decision.
