Jaylen Brown Discusses Impact of Getting NBA Money in New Video, Explains 'Stressors' of Wealth

Andrew PetersAug 17, 2026

Jaylen Brown has managed to turn his basketball skills into a very profitable career, but he recognizes that getting NBA money doesn't come without consequences.

On the Mental Wealth podcast, Brown discussed the stress that comes with wealth.

"I think that it's extremely helpful in terms of being able to create the life that you want and finding peace, and money definitely can help bring you that peace of mind that you're looking for," Brown said (30:55 mark). "But at the same time can add some stressors and things as well that people who don't have money don't understand. It's a balance, but don't think it's going to be one without the other."

Brown also broke down exactly what some of those stressors are.

"Mental health, relationships, family dynamics shift, and depending on the person, if you value those things immensely, it may not be worth it for you," Brown said. "... The majority of people, not all people, would choose to have money, but just don't expect it not to come with you signing up for other things as well."

Brown signed a five-year, $285 million supermax contract in 2024, so he knows what it's like to come into a lot of money quickly. He's likely to get even more soon, as he's eligible for a one-year, $68.9 million extension this offseason and a three-year, $223.2 million extension next season.
