Browns GM Berry Jokes About Myles Garrett Trade Causing 'Poor Parenting Moment' with His Son
Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry said his eight-year-old son wasn't thrilled to learn about the trade of Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams or the loss of tight end David Njoku in free agency this offseason.
"When I told my eight-year-old son, 'Myles Garret, he's no longer with the team,' his response was, 'You did what?'" Berry revealed on the Deebo & Joe show (14:20 mark). "That was his response. He didn't talk to me for the rest of the afternoon. Then here's the other part. His favorite player during his childhood has been David Njoku, and I hadn't told him yet that David had signed with the Los Angeles Chargers. So poor parenting moment, I told him both those pieces of news at the same time. It was a rough couple of days in the Berry household."

Browns New Stadium Model 🔥
Both moves were probably inevitable, however.
Garrett had pushed for a trade in the past, seeking to play for a contender, and the Browns got back a haul in return (star edge-rusher Jared Verse, a first-round pick in 2027, second-rounder in 2028, third-rounder in 2029).
Njoku, meanwhile, was not a priority re-signing for the Browns after Harold Fannin Jr. had a fantastic rookie season (72 catches for 731 yards and six touchdowns). Between Fannin and a rebuilt wide receiver room that will feature Jerry Jeudy, first-round pick KC Concepcion and second-round pick Denzel Boston, Njoku wouldn't have had much of a role in Cleveland had he stayed.
That didn't make it any easier for Berry's son to process the changes, however.
