Joshua Baez Worked as Delivery Driver Before Making MLB History in Cardinals Debut

Andrew PetersAug 17, 2026

Joshua Báez delivered three home runs in one of the most memorable debuts in MLB history this weekend, but it wasn't that long ago that he was delivering something else.

According to The Athletic, the St. Louis Cardinals prospect used to be a delivery driver for DoorDash around Massachusetts, using the extra cash to get around to various baseball events.

Now, the 23-year-old Báez could be on his way to being MLB's next star.

Báez is the No. 3 overall prospect in the Cardinals' organization, according to MLB.com, and he made quite the splash in his debut on Saturday, going 3-for-4 with three homers and five RBI.

The outfielder is the first player in MLB history to homer in each of his first three at-bats. Only two players have hit home runs three times in their debuts.

Before being called up, Báez was slashing .256/.328/.573 with 34 home runs, 90 RBI, 21 stolen bases and 79 runs scored with Triple-A Memphis.

With the Cardinals hoping for some more pop at the plate down the stretch, Báez could stick around the majors to close out the season.
