Daniel Jones Looks 'Like He Never Suffered an Injury,' Colts Insiders Reveal in New NFL Rumors

After his stellar 2025 season was cut short by a torn Achilles tendon, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones reportedly has already returned to the form that had him in last year's MVP conversation.

The Athletic's Jonathan Jones spoke to multiple team sources who said that Jones has not shown any signs of being hindered by his injury recovery during training camp.

"Now, watching Jones at practice, there's no hint of the injury to the casual observer. Wide receiver Josh Downs said Jones looked so good at the start of camp that he forgot about the injury," Jones stated. "Two team sources, not authorized to discuss Jones's health, echoed that, saying Jones has looked like he never suffered an injury, let alone the sort that can be devastating for professional athletes."

Before suffering the injury on a dropback during a Dec. 7 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Jones led the Colts to an 8-5 record while completing a career-best 68.0 percent of his passes for 3,101 yards, 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions. His absence devastated an Indianapolis team that was hoping to make the playoffs for the first time since 2020, as it ended the year on a seven-game losing streak and fell short of the postseason once again.

Despite the disappointing end to last season, Jones appears to have returned with the same level of motivation that sparked his impressive 2025 campaign. He's shown no hesitance in his dropbacks, even during joint practice against the New England Patriots last week.

"So far it hasn't (impacted him). It's been phenomenal," Colts head coach Shane Steichen said. "His rehab process, he attacked it tirelessly. I mean, it was unbelievable. I'm not even kidding when I say this, it was 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Like all day, training room, weight room, back to the training room, throwing, you name it. "He's like, 'I am going to be ready,' and he was very confident in that. Some guys when they go through rehab, they're like, 'Yeah, I'm getting there.' He's just like, 'Oh, I'm gonna be there.'"

Jones was regarded as one of the fastest quarterbacks in the NFL before his injury, hitting a max speed of 21.23 MPH during his infamous 80-yard run against the Philadelphia Eagles in 2020. The best speed he's clocked on the GPS post-surgery is 19.7 MPH, but the 29-year-old is confident that he can get back to his old self.

"I got to get my numbers back up," Jones said, "and I will."

While Jones' speedy recovery impressed those around him, he downplayed the process and said he simply listened to advice from medical professionals and put in the work.

"It's not that complicated," Jones said. "Throughout this process, I've tried really hard to — when the trainers tell you it's good to do something or the doctors tell you you're good to do something, to trust that and to go with that. And then your job at that point is to be aggressive and to push it and make sure you're making the effort. If you trust them and they deem it safe and what you're supposed to be doing, then it's time to do it and push it.

"From that standpoint, I've felt good," he continued. "I think there's still some progress to be made and just building up reps on it and getting your body used to pushing off of it again and feeling it again. I think there's a little bit of strength still to improve, but I think that's all part of the process and I feel really good."
