Steph Curry Trade Rumors Called 'Clickbait' by Warriors' Joe Lacob After Missing Out on LeBron James

After the Golden State Warriors fell short in their pursuit of star forward LeBron James in free agency, team owner Joe Lacob made it clear that the team has no intention of trading Stephen Curry.

During an appearance on The TK Show with Tim Kawakami, Lacob dismissed the notion that the Warriors would do something as drastic as shipping away their longtime face of the franchise.

"No, no, no. I don't think that is even a thing," Lacob told Kawakami (h/t Kevin Topley of NBC Sports Bay Area). "This is just a clickbait thing from all these people that do this kind of thing these days, and there seem to be a lot of them. I don't believe any of that is true. I'm very close with Steph -- he lives right near me, he's incredibly happy with the organization, with his life… I've never heard a word about that, and I can't imagine it. We certainly don't want him to go anywhere. I just think people are completely making a bunch of crap up."

While Curry is currently on an expiring $62.5 million contract for the 2026-27 season, he becomes eligible for an extension of up to two years and $136.7 million on Aug. 29. ESPN's Anthony Slater reported that all signs point to the two sides reaching an agreement, as Curry "has publicly maintained that he wants to play at least a couple more seasons and wants to play the entirety of his career with the Warriors."

Still, the Warriors have an aging roster that is unlikely to contend for an NBA championship anytime soon. ESPN's Brian Windhorst previously suggested that Curry should delay his contract extension to give Golden State some flexibility to construct a championship roster next offseason.

However, Lacob maintained that the Warriors are committed to keeping Curry in the fold for the entirety of his legendary career.

"It's not the date yet -- we're not really at that point, but we're getting close," Lacob said of Curry's impending extension. "We'll have that conversation. We'll see what we do. But my guess is Steph -- I wouldn't worry about this too much. Steph loves it here, we love him here. I don't want Steph to go anywhere. I really can't imagine a scenario where he's going anywhere."
