New NBA Rumors on Russell Westbrook, Bradley Beal's Potential Landing Spots in Free Agency

Veteran free agents Russell Westbrook and Bradley Beal have reportedly registered at least some level of interest from NBA teams more than a month out from the start of training camp.

According to Marc Stein of The Stein Line, the Sacramento Kings have maintained interest in bringing Westbrook back into the fold for a second season. However, that would reportedly require Westbrook to accept a lesser role than he had last season, and to be open to mentoring rookie first-round pick Darius Acuff Jr.

As for Beal, Stein reported that the Los Angeles Clippers have not ruled out re-signing him, plus the Miami Heat have shown some interest.

Westbrook, 37, is a likely future Hall of Famer with nine All-Star nods, nine All-NBA selections, two scoring titles and one NBA MVP Award to his credit.

The NBA's all-time leader in triple-doubles enjoyed most of his success during an 11-year stint with the Oklahoma City Thunder to start his career.

While Westbrook has bounced around between six different teams over the past seven seasons, he has remained a productive and useful player.

After primarily coming off the bench the previous three seasons, Westbrook started 58 of the 64 games he appeared in for the Kings last season, averaging 15.2 points, 6.7 assists, 5.4 rebounds, 2.0 three-pointers made and 1.3 steals per contest, while shooting 42.7 percent from the field and 33.8 percent from beyond the arc.

With the Kings seemingly rebuilding and wanting to focus on young players, Westbrook likely wouldn't get the same opportunities to put up the numbers he did last season, but he could still play a valuable role in Sacramento.

As Stein noted, Westbrook did not sign with the Kings until mid-October last year, so he may not be in a hurry to make a decision.

Beal is quite a bit younger than Westbrook at 33, but the three-time All-Star is coming off an injury-plagued season that saw him appear in only six games.

He also averaged a career-low 8.2 points per game in the contests he did play, perhaps leaving teams to wonder just how effective Beal can be.

Injuries have been an issue for Beal for quite some time, as he has not eclipsed the 60 games played mark since the 2018-19 season, which saw him play in all 82 games.

Beal was once considered to be among the NBA's best scorers during his 11-year run with the Washington Wizards, particularly from 2016 to 2023 when he averaged 25.5 points per game.

His numbers instantly dropped when he joined the Phoenix Suns in 2023, as he averaged just 17.6 points per game in two seasons with the team.

If Beal re-signs with the Clippers, there would perhaps be an opportunity for him to carve out a meaningful role, but they are not widely expected to be contenders in the stacked Western Conference.

A move to Miami could make a lot of sense, though, as the Heat are in search of shooting to complement the star duo of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo.

While there is a good chance Beal would have to come off the bench in Miami, he could potentially provide the type of offensive spark the Heat need, as long as he can stay healthy.
