New Knicks Rumors Update Deuce McBride Contract Extension Buzz Amid 2026 NBA Offseason

The New York Knicks might not agree to a contract extension with guard Deuce McBride before the 2026-27 season.

According to Stefan Bondy of the New York Post, Tuesday represented "something of a soft deadline" for an extension. Both sides won't reach an agreement on Tuesday, though.

Bondy noted that if McBride signs an extension after Tuesday, he cannot be traded before next season's deadline.

As the Knicks attempt to defend their championship, they could be looking to maintain more flexibility for a potential trade.

SNY's Ian Begley previously reported that New York spoke to "multiple teams" about trades for a backup center behind Karl-Anthony Towns earlier this offseason, as veteran Andre Drummond is the only other big man on the team's current roster.

As for McBride, he has one season left on his contract. He'll earn just under $4 million for his 2026-27 campaign before hitting free agency next year.

The former second-round pick has served as a key piece of New York's rotation throughout the past three seasons, making an impact off the bench due to his defensive activity and three-point prowess.

McBride averaged a career-high 12.0 points to go along with 2.6 assists and 2.4 rebounds per game last season, shooting 42.3 percent from the field and 41.3 percent from behind the arc.

His plus-9.5 net rating was the highest among all Knicks players to appear in at least 30 games (via NBA.com).

While McBride operated in a smaller role during New York's playoff run that ended with a title, he still connected on 37.5 percent of his triples across 19 postseason appearances.

He could enter the 2026-27 season without an extension, though.
