Tyler Herro 'Not Really Worried' About Contract Status After Trade to Bucks in Giannis Deal

Milwaukee Bucks guard Tyler Herro has one season left on his four-year, $120 million extension before he's scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2027.

Herro, who was traded from the Miami Heat to Milwaukee in July as part of the blockbuster deal that sent superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo to South Beach, isn't concerned about a new deal at the moment, per comments relayed by Steve Megargee of the Associated Press.

"I'm not really worried about it right now," Herro said from his New Berlin, Wisconsin-based youth basketball camp, which is hosted by the 26-year-old's foundation. "It's a new slate for me, for the coaches, really for the organization as a whole. I don't think that needs to be a burden over anyone's shoulders."

Herro was born and raised in Greenfield, Wisconsin, which is located in the Milwaukee metropolitan area. So this represents a return home for Herro, who will also get a chance here to be the team's top star and scoring option with Antetokounmpo no longer aboard.

The former Kentucky star has played all seven of his NBA seasons with the Heat, who selected Herro with the 13th overall pick in the 2019 draft. Herro helped Miami make the NBA Finals twice in 2020 and 2023. He also earned Sixth Man of the Year honors in 2022 and made his first All-Star Game in 2025.

Last year, Herro averaged 20.5 points on 48.0 percent shooting, 4.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists. Unfortunately, he was held to just 33 games due to numerous ailments and issues. He underwent surgery in September 2025 to alleviate posterior impingement syndrome in his left ankle and foot, and he didn't make his debut until a month into the season.

Herro also suffered a right big toe contusion in December (11 missed games) and a "right costochondral injury to the ribs" back in mid-January (15 missed games).

Hopefully Herro has far greater health in 2026-27 as he enjoys a fresh start in his home state. At his best, he's a fantastic scorer and an important cog on a winning team.
