Tyrese Maxey Didn't Have to Do 'A Lot of Convincing' During LeBron James' 76ers Recruitment

Philadelphia 76ers star Tyrese Maxey said he only exchanged "a couple" of phone calls and texts with LeBron James before the NBA's all-time leading scorer agreed to join the Sixers this offseason.

"Not many," Maxey said when asked by NBC Sports' John Clark about the number of text messages and phone calls it took to recruit James.

Maxey continued, "It wasn't a lot of convincing. It was a couple phone calls, a couple texts... we're good friends."

James has previously said he and Maxey have trained together "over the last few summers."

His agent Rich Paul added in a July episode of his podcast Game Over Maxey "led the charge" in James' recruitment.

Paul, who represents both Maxey and Paul, said he feels Maxey is a good personality match alongside James.

"I know the character of Anthony Davis. He does not care about who's getting the shine... same thing with Tyrese. I know that it's a positive because they've been around, they work out together," Paul said in July.

The two players have now have resumed joint workouts since James agreed to join the Sixers on a two-year, $8 million deal with a player option.

James will now hope teaming up with Maxey, Joel Embiid and Jaylen Brown will be enough to help the Sixers to contend for the team's first title since 1983.
